Bison 1879 Double Bit Axe Description

From the origins of the North American axes, the Bison Double Bit axe is both functional as a working axe in the forest and has been adapted for use in axe throwing. Forged symmetrically, the Bison Double Bit axe is crafted with a centre joining hickory handle for an even balance and provides a consistent rotation when in flight. The dimensions and design of the axe comply with the rules for axe throwing making it a popular choice for pro and enthusiast axe throwing players. NOTE: the axe has two bit edges which are extremely sharp and should be used with caution by inexperienced users.

Total symmetry can be adjusted using a grinding stone to create different grinds on each bit. Suitable for felling with a sharpened regular felling axe angle or create a precise very fine angle, like a racing axe grind. Particularly good for wood lower down on the trunk when felling tends to have less knots. The axe cannot be used for driving wedges due to the double bit 2 sided shape.

The Bison Double Bit axe features a 750mm straight hickory handle for a comfortable grip, combined with the 1.6kg axe head makes for a well balanced axe. The axe profile has been expertly crafted with an sharp narrow blade that assures precision as opposed to arm strength!

The handle is made of solid and resilient hickory wood with excellent vibration absorption, ergonomically shaped for user comfort and finished with natural varnish.

The cutting edge is sharply ground, whilst the hickory handle is triple wedged for maximum safety.

Bison 1879 originates from the family tradition of master-smith Moritz Trept, a tradition that later became Bison, the company. Today Bison is renowned for producing individually unique, hand-forged axes and forestry tools. Assorted hickory wood handles add to the distinct individual look and will vary between tool made. The natural colour of hickory wood varies between a very light beige to a darker more reddish tone. The colour has no effect on the quality or usability of the handle, in fact, a lot of customers value this natural colour scheme giving their axe an authentic uniqueness. The assembly of the head and handle uses 2 safety wedges for hatchets and 3 safety wedges for axes. The wedges lock firmly into the wood to secure the axe head. The handle is slightly thicker than the axe head diameter, this is necessary to get a strong and safe fitting during assembly. Bison handles are fitted using high pressure and during assembly there may be some splinters. A light sandpaper easily removes these. Hand-forged, crafted tools with authentic individuality is what differentiates Bison 1879.
